After 32 years as a front-line secondary school teacher of boys, where all my seven qualifications were acquired in the traditional manner by lectures in four different Irish universities, I recently decided to take my first online course so I could gain an understanding of what Restorative Practice is.
I had a great feeling of anticipation, and trepidation undertaking education in such a manner. My worries were unfounded. Though a different format for learning, this was a wonderful experience and, if truth be told, an easier way to learn than I have been used to.
The presenters were excellent – clear, concise and to the point. The content, though challenging and requiring much concentration, was brilliantly presented in a straightforward manner, and always linked back to teacher experiences in school.
The biggest advantage for me was the ability to pause and replay if I felt I did not get a full understanding of a particular point. I was able to take copious notes, as would be normal for me, and download all the reading material for consultation and further note taking.
The backup was brilliant – any questions, or issues, were dealt with in a professionally prompt manner. I never felt I was on my own.
CDI have done an excellent job in presenting this course and an even greater service to teachers everywhere in Ireland by making it so accessible to all. Thank you.
