Speech, Language & Communication Online Summer Course for Primary Teachers
CDI’s Speech, Language, and Communication Summer Course helps primary school teachers address students’ speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN). Approved by the Department of Education and Skills , this 20-hour, self-paced course runs from July 01st to August 1st, 2025. It combines speech and language therapy (SLT) with primary teaching to provide practical tools for mainstream and support teachers.
Who is it for?
Open to all primary school teachers, with particular relevance for DEIS school teachers addressing social deprivation.
What will I learn?
- Module 1: Understanding and supporting speech and language development in the classroom.
- Module 2: Identifying and supporting children with SLCN in the classroom.
- Module 3: Evidence-based practices for junior classes (phonological awareness, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension).
- Module 4: Evidence-based practices for senior classes (vocabulary, grammar, comprehension).
- Module 5: Exploring language beyond the classroom, including parental involvement and community SLT initiatives.

- Entitles teachers to 3 EPV days

- Participants must engage with the online forums
- Module assignments are monitored in bulk to allow for free movement between modules
- Course materials include pre-recorded tutor videos with course script and useful handouts
- CPD Certificate awarded upon successful completion.
