We gathered as a collective of parents, children, and teachers just over six weeks ago to begin our first-ever Doodle Family sessions. We had no idea what the coming weeks or hours would bring. And now, as we prepare for our seventh meeting, we do so as a settled hub of learners.

The children who took those first shy, uncertain steps into an unfamiliar classroom have become the children who bound in the door every Tuesday afternoon, wanting to see what book we will read today.

But mainly, as a teacher who works with parents, the most significant transformation has been amongst the mams, dads, grandparents, and aunts who joined us reluctantly. Our first almost-silent sessions have evolved into lively discussions and brought new friendships.

It’s been a joy watching our grown-up participants grow more confident about reading with their children, doing homework, and teaching them! We now have fourteen adults who understand their huge role in the child’s education and feel more empowered to make that difference.

I want to thank Clare and the team for the training days and all the off-site support that we received. Knowing that any questions were speedily answered and someone was always there to talk to was great. This has been a valuable contribution to a great overall experience.
