Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) is a systemic approach to ending abusive/violent behaviour of children towards their parents/carers. The model leads to change by focusing on work with parents over a period of 8-9 weeks following assessment.
This two-day training for practitioners covers the development of research and theory about child to parent violence (CPV). The training looks at what is CPV as distinct from other behaviours and outlines in detail the NVR model and how it is applied as an intervention.
The training also covers the development of NVR in Ireland and has practical elements included so that those attending get the opportunity to practice the skills of assessing and delivering the NVR intervention. This course is focused on CPV among young people under 18 years.
The two-day training begins at 9.30am and ends at 16:00 . All those attending will receive resources including access to the new Parentline manual and resources to run Zoom groups for parents. These are all generously shared with those who have trained by other agencies running one to one and groupwork programmes. There is no cost for any of the materials or for any follow up support queries that may emerge initially setting up this model.
The training will be delivered by Rosemary Fox from WISEFox Consultancy. Rosemary is a member of NVR Ireland national committee. As well as training professionals in NVR intervention, Rosemary facilitates parents groups online in the NVR model and one to one work with parents experiencing child to parent violence as a volunteer with Parentline.”
In 2013, Rosemary was aware that there were significant physical and emotional controlling behaviours presenting in children on her teams’ caseload and their parents were very isolated and hopeless about their situation. She linked with Dr Declan Coogan at NUI Galway and has been actively involved since in providing information and trainings to practitioners about CPV and the NVR model of intervention including setting up her own company to deliver the trainings when she retired.
